Coastal Minimalism ● Natural and Refined

Edge House

Designed by Matt Burleigh ● Concept Design

Developed as a refined response to its Trigg coastal setting, Edge House explores how intelligent orientation and disciplined material selection can deliver a home that feels calm, robust and enduring - even within the constraints of a challenging BAL-FZ environment.

As a coastal home architect in Perth, our focus was not on excess, but on clarity: aligning living spaces to capture light and prevailing breezes, shielding against harsh western exposure, and shaping a modern coastal architecture that is both resilient and restrained.

The material strategy is deliberately restrained, prioritising longevity in a harsh coastal climate and full compliance within a BAL-FZ bushfire zone. Robust, non-combustible systems form the primary envelope, carefully detailed to withstand salt-laden winds while maintaining a crisp, minimal silhouette.

Rather than relying on contrast for effect, warmth is introduced with intention — through subtle tonal shifts and refined textures that soften the architecture without compromising performance. The result is a modern coastal home in Perth that balances durability and elegance, proving that sustainable coastal architecture in WA can be both resilient and quietly sophisticated.

Edge House is conceived as a disciplined expression of coastal minimalism — a home shaped by orientation, climate and constraint. Currently in progress in Trigg, the design responds to its challenging BAL-FZ context with a refined, high-performance envelope and a carefully curated material palette.

As a coastal home architect in Perth, our ambition is simple: deliver a modern coastal residence that balances architectural clarity with resilience, creating a sustainable coastal home in WA that feels calm, enduring and deeply connected to place.
