Coastal Minimalism ● Natural and Refined

Dune House

Designed by Matt Burleigh ● Concept Design

Developed as a considered response to its elevated Warnbro dune setting, Dune House explores how careful siting and disciplined restraint can deliver a home that feels grounded, enduring and at ease within the landscape — all while working within BAL-29 constraints.

As a coastal home architect in WA, the focus was not on imposing form, but on working with the land: stepping the home into the existing levels, minimising cut and fill, and maintaining a single-storey outcome that preserves both outlook and connection to the dunes.

The material palette is intentionally restrained, prioritising durability in a harsh coastal environment and compliance within BAL-29 constraints. Robust, low-maintenance systems form a resilient outer shell, carefully detailed to withstand exposure while maintaining a clean, minimal expression.

Subtle shifts in tone and texture introduce warmth without excess, resulting in a modern coastal home in WA that is both enduring and refined — a quiet, confident response to its dune setting.
