Hamptons-Inspired Accessible Beach Home ● Moore River

Jarrah House

Designed by Matt Burleigh ● In Detailed Design

Jarrah House is a coastal refurbishment designed by Cynosure Architecture for a three-storey beach home in Moore River. The project modernises an existing family retreat with a Hamptons-inspired aesthetic while carefully upgrading accessibility for an aging father.

The design respects the home’s original character and setting, introducing lighter finishes, improved circulation, and thoughtful detailing to ensure both style and practicality. A focus on wider access points, improved bathroom layouts, and simplified connections between levels enhances day-to-day use, while the refreshed interiors bring a timeless coastal elegance.

The result is a contemporary beachside home that balances comfort, accessibility, and relaxed sophistication — a retreat tailored for family living today, with the flexibility to adapt to changing needs over time.

Weatherboard cladding and fresh coastal detailing anchor Jarrah House in its beachside setting, bringing lightness and cohesion to the design while opening up views toward the river and dunes. These Hamptons-inspired finishes create a timeless counterpoint to the home’s refreshed layout, balancing traditional character with a crisp, contemporary feel. The design intent was to deliver an elegant, accessible residence that supports aging-in-place, improves circulation, and enhances day-to-day comfort — transforming a much-loved family retreat into a welcoming coastal haven for generations to come.

Jarrah House is more than a cosmetic refresh - it’s about reshaping an older beach house so it can keep serving the family well into the future. The design looks beyond today’s needs, making the three-storey home easier to navigate and more comfortable while still feeling like a relaxed coastal getaway.

Light-filled interiors, generous verandahs, and a new Hamptons-inspired palette bring a sense of ease and openness, while practical upgrades like accessible bathrooms and safer level changes ensure the home remains welcoming and functional. The result is a retreat that feels timeless and uplifting, ready to host family life for many years to come.
