Concrete Residence
Luxury Minimalist Home ● Residential Design
Designed by Matt Burleigh ● Feasibility Design
Raw form takes centre stage in the Concrete Residence, a bold feasibility concept by Cynosure Architecture exploring the limits of luxury minimalist architecture in Perth. Designed for full demolition and rebuild, the proposal envisioned a sculptural family home defined by dramatic overhangs, seamless spatial flow, and a restrained, material-driven palette.
Initially conceived as a complete rebuild, the Concrete Residence was a bold feasibility study by Cynosure Architecture—envisioned as a luxury, sculptural home to replace an existing dwelling. While the concept pushed material expression and structural form to their limits, the design ultimately evolved into what is now the Willetton Residence, adapting to retain and rework the existing structure while still carrying forward many of the original design principles.
A sense of flow—both spatial and structural—was central to the Concrete Residence concept, anchoring the home’s strong sculptural presence within a seamless indoor-outdoor experience.
The bones of the Concrete Residence were designed to speak through material honesty—sculptural off-form concrete paired with refined, minimal detailing. Warmth and texture were introduced through carefully selected finishes and considered furnishing opportunities, balancing the bold geometry of the home with subtle, tactile contrast. Though conceptual, the design anticipated a restrained palette of natural stone, fine timber accents, and high-end minimalist fixtures—offering a timeless backdrop for contemporary furniture and curated personal pieces.
While the project never moved beyond feasibility, it remains a distilled expression of luxury minimalist architecture in Perth—anchored by bold structure, clarity of form, and the seamless integration of indoor and outdoor space.
